Arms for Contact Tool Setter
MIDA ARMS
In the contact tool setter application field, the Mida Arm system can be used to set tools and perform wear and integrity checks on them inside lathes or turning centres, irrespective of their size. Mida Arm is capable of detecting tool coordinates with extreme accuracy and rendering the available to the machine registers instantaneously, thus eliminating human errors caused by having to enter data manually.
Mida Arm eliminates the need to identify excess material, thereby reducing tool setting and process set-up times.
With the Mida Arm system it is possible to perform rapid inspections on tools for signs or wear or breakages, an essential aspect of unmonitored automatic machining processes.
Thanks to is flexible, modular design, the system can be adapted easily for use on any type of lathe, irrespective of the type of tools and spindles in use.
Mida Arm may be installed in either removable or fixed mode, in order to adapt to the machine configuration and automation level.
Midi Arm is used with standard tool setting inputs on CNC commands, via the E32A electronic interface unit. The interface is used to manage the touch probe and supply power to it.
The LED mounted on the probe indicates when the tool comes into contact with the probe contact, as well as providing information about the current state of the probe.
- Reduced cycle times
- Increased productivity
- Available in a wide range of sizes
- Occupies the minimum of space in the rest position
- Versatility
- Ease of installation

Mida Set
Mida Set is a removable arm that is installed in the machine during the tool setting process, and removed upon completion. The system consists of a fixed base, which is mounted permanently on the side of the machine spindle, and the arm where the touch probe is mounted. The locking system guarantees high repeatability of the touch probe measurement position.
During the machining phases, the fixed base is protected by a sealed cover that protects the electrical connections from chips and coolant.
When the arm is not in use, it can be stored in a special case or housed inside the machine on a dedicated storage base.
Mida Tool Eye
The Mida Tool Eye system consists of a fixed base and an arm that is housed inside the machine, and is available in both manual and electrical versions. The two versions of Mida Tool Eye differ in the way that the probe is moved to the measurement position. In the case of the manual Mida Tool Eye version, the operator performs the vertical positioning movement manually, whereas, in the case of the electrical Mida Tool Eye version positioning is performed automatically.
In either case, the arm positioning repeatability is guaranteed to within 5 mm (2σ), and no additional adjustment are necessary
When the arm is in the home position the probe is housed in a dedicated metallic box, which protects it from coolant and machining chips.
