Air Leak Test on Gear Box

Due to the complexity of the automatic transmission a fluid leak in the gear box or in the gear housing, can affect the final gear performances. Possible leaks can be detected from internal to external or between internal circuits.

Detecting leaks early in the manufacturing process, in castings or machined parts, saves costs by removing defective parts prior to machining and/or assembly.

Air Leak Test on Gear Box
DESCRIPTION

Air leak test method (air mass flow or pressure decay) is generally an appropriate method to meet customer leakage test requirements.

In this case, once the part has been sealed through a special sealing equipment, the test is carried out with a specific and customised sequence of different tests using several instruments. Some gearboxes are very complex, in some cases 25/30 different circuits have to be tested.

The test sequence and measurement circuit are studied and customised for each part type. The number of instruments required for the complete test sequence depends on the machine cycle time and the number of circuits to be tested.

The complexity of the measurement cycle is also related to the different rejection levels. Typical maximum leakage allowed from internal to external is generally around 1cc/min, but on the same circuit an internal leakage of up to 200cc/min is also accepted, so multiple tests on the same circuit are required to ensure a complete and reliable test.

TECH SPECS

Test pressure from 500mbar to 1500mbar
External leak from 0.5c c/min to 5cc/min
Internal leak from 100cc/min to 200 cc/min
