End-Of-Line Testing Of Electric Motors

End-of-line functional testing is a vital part of quality control for fully assembled electric motors.

The way in which it is performed can vary depending on the application, ranging from laboratory use during the development and configuration phases of the process, to 100% end-of-line testing in the production environment.

DESCRIPTION

Insulation testing is usually repeated in the final phase of motor testing. This can be performed using traditional techniques such as insulation resistance measurement, dielectric strength test (Hi-Pot), surge test or partial discharge measurements. This step is critical in ensuring that assembly operations have not compromised the integrity of the electrical insulation.

However, complete motor quality control also includes other functional tests aimed at evaluating key parameters, such as:

  • Vibration and Noise (NVH testing)
  • Back EMF
  • Friction and iron losses
  • No Load test
  • Load test

and many other essential performance characteristics.
