In the modern car industry, ‘orbital' grinding machines have decreased crankshaft production times, with respect to more traditional processes.

Speeds, feed rates and mathematical algorithms play a great role in the effect of the shape of the ground part. . Ultimate control of the shape is only possible after examination of test parts in the metrological laboratory.

This form control necessitates large amount of man hours, and often machine downtime, whilst the part is manually unloaded and carried to the metrological laboratory. Anything other than immediate inspection and machine data correction further adds to the already high production costs.

Marposs has developed a system for the ‘shape control' aimed at detecting the part shape directly in the machine without any unloading or manual inspection.

The Marposs measuring equipment is the same both for the ‘in-process' control of part size, and for the ‘shape control' cycle. No retooling or changeover is required to perform the different applications.

The Marposs P5/P7 Family of Amplifiers caters for in-process dimension control and post-process shape control. The shape control function being further supported by Software resident in the machine CNC.
