NEW ARTIS CRASH SENSING SYSTEM INTRODUCED AT IMTS 2010

CRASHSENSOR ACS-3, A 3-AXIS ACCELERATION SENSOR WITH DATALOGGER FOR MACHINE TOOL APPLICATIONS

NEW ARTIS CRASH SENSING SYSTEM INTRODUCED AT IMTS 2010

The new artis Crashsensor ACS-3 system monitors, detects and records machine tool crash events in order to reduce secondary damage to expensive components and workpieces, and for evaluation of crash events for warranty purposes.

Artis, a Company belonging to  Marposs Group, introduced its Crashsensor ACS-3, 3-axis acceleration sensor with datalogger for machine tool applications at IMTS 2010.

The Crashsensor ACS-3 is comprised of a multi-axis acceleration sensor, evaluation electronics and micro controller combined in one housing. The system can be mounted directly on the machine or headstock. Mounting on the headstock is especially suited for retrofit installations. Once activated, the system monitors acceleration to various limits. If a limit is exceeded, the datalogger writes this information to an alarm recorder with the date and time. The recorder can be read out via a serial interface.
Among the benefits of the new Artis Crashsensor ACS-3 is the prevention of secondary damage through destruction of expensive machine components and related machine downtimes caused by collisions due to machine or programming errors. The system can also facilitate securing evidence of adequate use of machinery components such as spindles and bearings as well as clear identification and documentation (date, time and amplitude value) as to whether or not a collision event has occurred. This information can be useful to machine tool builders for prevention of unauthorized warranty claims and to provide evidence of justified or unjustified warranty claims.
The Crashsensor ACS-3 system can be programmed for three adjustable collision limits. Limit violations are summarized for load complexes in three areas. The acceleration sensor unit is housed in a stainless steel housing that can be sized to the machine builder’s specifications.

Artis is the leading international company in the field of tool, process and machine condition monitoring and for the adaptive control of processes in metal machining. Artis develops, manufactures and distributes hardware and software for this sector. With an installed base of over 15,000 systems worldwide, Artis products provide effective tool and workpiece protection, reliable machine protection, optimized processes, increased productivity and profitability, and the basis for reducing total cost of ownership.
