Thread inspection is becoming a critical QC check in the industry and is often required after automated tapping operation. The Eddy Current technology allows the use of dedicated sensors to determine thread condition vs. no-thread condition.
Working principle: when a sensor is inserted into tapped holes, the eddy current induced in the surface will produce an analog voltage that is proportional to the radial distance. A wrong voltage signal will be an indication that holes were not correctly tapped.
In case of thread quality inspection, related tests are performed by profiling through the full depth of the hole.
